Martha is a longtime, international Approved Brainspotting Trainer, Consultant, & Specialty Workshop/Class Presenter who has studied directly with David Grand since 2001. She was a presenter at both the 2016 (Buzios RJ, Brasil) and 2021 (Denver Co, USA) International Brainspotting Conferences. An ordained Lutheran pastor for 45 years, Martha has an advanced degree in Pastoral Theology, and completed her doctoral work focused on an interfaith method for working with the intersection of Brainspotting with world spiritualities, religions, and contemplative practices. As a clinical social worker and pastoral psychotherapist, she initially specialized in Family Preventive Services, and maintained a trauma and spirituality focused clinical practice (agency-based and/or private practice) for 30 years. She retired from clinical practice in 2023. Humanitarian work has been a through-line in Martha's clinical and pastoral practices. She provided extensive therapy in NYC after 9/11, supported families & children in Sandy Hook CT at the invitation of the Resiliency Center of Newtown, and was a referral clinical for Wounded Warrior Project and (currently) Brainspotting Help. She serves on the Board of Brainspotting Help. Martha was the developer and founding Associate Dean of Behavioural Health for the Brainspotting Concentration at International University for Graduate Studies from 2015 - 2023. Martha is the author of numerous invited chapters and articles, in both clinical and theological publications. Current writing projects include a guide for teaching her method related to Brainspotting and global religio-spiritual beliefs and practices, and a book of meditations for caregivers of partners/spouses with terminal diagnoses.
